Open Stack

Open Stack

WIE IEEE SEECS is one of the amazing societies of NUST that has been busy in arranging many events across NUST successfully.

It arranged a workshop on OPEN STACK in SEECS in the last month of April which aimed at promoting awareness among the participants about OpenStack as open source cloud computing software and to help the participants in understanding the series of interrelated projects.

OpenStack is a free and open-source cloud computing software platform. The technology consists of a series of interrelated projects that control pools of processing, storage, and networking resources throughout a data centre —which users can easily manage through a web-based dashboard, command-line tools, or a RESTful API. OpenStack.org released it under the terms of the Apache License.

The workshop started at 2 p.m. and was divided in four basic sessions:

  1. SDN, Virtualization, Clouds
  2. History and motivation for the use of OPENSTACK
  3. Playing with the OPENSTACK cloud
  4. Discussion and question answer session

The workshop was quite successful as the enthusiastic participants were not only from SEECS students but from all over NUST. The attendees were quite satisfied with the workshop. They gave us a positive feedback regarding the instructors and the knowledge provided to them. Attendees from outside SEECS were very impressed the way organizers held and organized the workshop. They were happy that such a topic to be chosen and that the workshop was open for the outsiders too.

IEEE WIE group, itself, learnt a lot from this workshop in aspects of marketing, planning, organizing and teaching.  Upon seeing the success of this event we are planning to hold such workshops in future as well.
